The Jets have released linebacker Julian Stanford.

Stanford was undrafted out of Wagner in 2012. The Jets originally signed him to the practice squad late in the 2015 season. He earned a spot on the roster with a strong preseason in 2016. In the Week 2 win over the Bills, he got some snaps primarily as a spy on Tyrod Taylor. Around the middle point of the season, the Jets had to reach into their depth at inside linebacker, and Stanford got a lot of snaps over a four game stretch. Aside from that, he mainly played on special teams.

Stanford will already be 27 by the time the season starts, and the Jets were his fourth NFL organization so this was not a young guy with a ton of upside. He was more a spare part around for depth purposes.

He previously spent time with the Jaguars, Lions, and Buccaneers.
