Each year we at SB Nation we put together a big mock draft. Each site serves as general manager for its team.
The Jets took LSU safety Jamal Adams in the first round of this mock draft. Our own David Wyatt decided to fortify the offensive line with the second pick.
39. New York Jets, Pat Elflein, C/OG, Ohio State
Wyatt: With the release of Nick Mangold, the Jets should be looking to the future at the center position, and that future comes in the form of another Ohio State standout.
The Jets probably won’t be competing in 2017 so it’s time to start putting the foundation blocks in for a long-term movement, and Elflein is one of the safest picks in the draft.
Go over to SB Nation’s NFL Draft site for David’s full explanation along with analysis from Dan Kadar.
I can’t speak for you, but this would get me to a point where I could at least talk myself into this Jets offensive line. You’d have a good propsect at center. If Kelvin Beachum returns to form, if Brandon Shell emerges, and if the guards don’t regress in a new system, you’d have the makings of a solid line.
That is a lot of ‘ifs’ but we can all dream in the offseason.
