Dan Kadar of SB Nation is out with a new two round mock draft. I think it is fair to say we are relatively friendly with SB Nation here at GGN so I wanted to share his selections with you. There is a distinct theme.
6. New York Jets: Malik Hooker, S, Ohio State
For the Jets Hooker can be a safety/cornerback hybrid player who can help an average pass defense.
39. New York Jets: Teez Tabor, CB, Florida
Even after taking Hooker in the first round, Tabor might be hard to the Jets to pass up and finish an overhaul of their secondary.
Todd Bowles played in the secondary. He coached the secondary. It wouldn’t be a surprise if his team focused on rebuilding a bad secondary.
The picks in front of Hooker are Myles Garrett, Solomon Thomas, Jamal Adams, Leonard Fournette, and Marshon Lattimore.
The two LSU guys, Adams and Fournette have my attention. If they are off the board, I can live with a roll of the dice on Hooker. Hooker is high risk, but he’s also high reward. Even though he isn’t a well-rounded player and probably never will be, his skills in a deep zone role could make him a special talent and a difference-maker on defense.
I have less enthusiasm for Tabor as high as the 39th pick. I wasn’t that crazy about him as a player before he tested. There aren’t many instances where I focus too much on Combine and pro day numbers unless a player’s scores are abysmal. Unfortunately for Tabor, his were just that. And again, I wasn’t that wild about this player to begin with.
