If the 1st day of the legal tampering period was a little quiet for the Jets, today has been the complete opposite. According to a report from NJ.com, the Jets are very interested in Nick Perry, the soon to be free agent pass rusher of the Green Bay Packers.
A source familiar with the situation told NJ Advance Media the Jets have expressed "lots" of interest in Packers outside linebacker Nick Perry. They aren't the only team in the running, but it seems like a deal could get done once the league year begins March 9
Now this is an interesting one. The Jets have been looking for a good edge rusher for years and all of a sudden one becomes available. One who's coming off a year with 11 sacks, a pretty impressive number.
The problem of course, is that over the first four years of Perry's career he totalled 12.5 sacks total. This year he was playing on a one year prove it deal, and credit to him...he proved it. However I'm always sceptical about giving guys big contracts based off of one year's worth of production.
Now Perry is likely going to get around $12-$13 million a year, and in the Jets system...he could be quite productive with the likes of Williams and Wilkerson leading the way. Especially considering that the Jets now have former sack artist Kevin Greene as their outside linebackers coach.
