Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reports the Jets are among the teams showing interest in free agent tight end Anthony Fasano.
Giants have expressed some initial interest in TE Anthony Fasano, according to NFL source. Nothing formal yet. Jets also have some interest.— Paul Schwartz (@NYPost_Schwartz) March 7, 2017
Fasano has played on four different teams in his eleven seasons in the league. It is no secret that the Jets have had the worst tight end situation in the NFL over the last two seasons so connecting them with a player who has any sort of resume makes sense.
This also lines up with the idea the Jets might be looking to build their offense around the power run game. Fasano has a great reputation as a blocker at the tight end position. He only caught 8 passes in 2016, but that was something of an anamoly. He generally has been a reliable 25-35 catch guy. When you block as effectively as Fasano, just being a functional outlet in the passing game is enough to add value to your team.
