NFL Combine Results: Christian McCaffrey Impresses On Day One

New, comments

Yesterday we saw the players take the field for the first time, and one running back separated himself from the rest.

Christian McCaffrey doesn't believe he gets the credit that he deserves. He said as much during his combine interview

I play with a chip on my shoulder always. I feel like a lot of people don't give me credit for my skills and talents. That's just the way it is. But I also don't really care too much. I don't feel like I'm crazy disrespected. I have a chip on my shoulder at all times. That's been my whole life.

If he's playing to prove a point, he started with a bang yesterday. For me he was the best player on the field at the combine yesterday. His hands were incredible, his cuts were fantastic, he didn't put a single ball on the ground and he ran one of the best 40 times for the running back group.

When the running backs left the field at the end of the workout, McCaffrey stayed to go through a few impromptu wide receiver routes and to field some punts as well. That's what he believes separates him from the pack.

Something I really pride myself on is not just being a running back that can catch the ball but if I move out to the slot, I become a receiver. If I move out to X or Z, I become a receiver and not just a running back. I really try to pride myself on route running, catching and being able to be a mismatch anywhere on the field.

The more you see of McCaffrey, the more you like. If he gets man coverage with a linebacker or safety, you can forget about it. There are very few who would be able to stick to him. His cuts and footwork yesterday was quite frankly flawless. Runs like a running back and catches like a receiver. He was on the first round bubble, but after his workout yesterday, and once his pro-day is complete...I fully expect him to be a first round talent, and I think he'll make an immediate impact wherever he lands.

First day of on-field workouts were dominated by McCaffrey.

Today, it's the turn of the QB's, WR's and TE's, which means I get to see my guy Zay Jones!
