David Njoku is an extraordinary athlete, and he showcased those skills on the field at Miami in 2016 by catching 43 passes for 698 yards and 8 touchdowns. Touted as a possible day one but more likely day two prospect, he'll have several teams clamouring to ensure he's causing a mismatch for them, rather than against them.
Being a native of New Jersey and having met both the Giants and the Jets, Njoku couldn't hide his excitement at potentially suiting up one of his home town teams:
“It’s crazy. It feels like yesterday that I was a little kid and I was the biggest fan watching them on TV, hoping one day I would go to a game, and now I’m here and could possibly be on that team next season. It’s a great blessing.”
“To go home? That would mean a lot. I mean, anywhere I go honestly is a blessing, but being raised in Jersey and watching the Giants and the Jets and having them both as my top two favorite teams when I was younger, it would be awesome.”
Njoku is a fantastic talent who could develop to be one of the premier pass catchers in the NFL. He has size, speed and great length, and he high points the ball as well as any receiver coming out of college.
Speaking about his meeting with the Jets specifically, he stated:
“It was good. It was really good. They seem like great coaches. All of them seem like great people overall. We had a really great conversation about football and me personally.”
He does have an issue with focus drops, and he's put 8 balls on the ground over the last two years. He'll also need to improve his blocking and base strength to succeed at the next level.
However as a pass catcher, he can come in and create problems immediately. With his good attitude, you can work with him on the rest. I think he'll go early on day 2 and he could be in the mix for the Jets 2nd round selection.
