Albert Breer reports free agent quarterback Josh McCown, who had been on a free agent visit to the Jets, departed without a contract from the team.
Free-agent QB Josh McCown wrapped up his visit with the Jets without signing a deal. Sides are still talking, but nothing's imminent.

The book on this is not closed according to Breer. A contract still could certainly happen going forward, but there was not enough mutual interest for the sides to come to a deal quickly.
I have said this before, but I struggle to see the sense in the Jets’ interest in McCown. It feels to me like it would be signing a veteran quarterback for the sake of the team being able to say it has a veteran quarterback. McCown has had a long NFL career, but he has seldom had success. With the Jets trying to build essentially from the ground up, I think any quarterback signing needs to be somebody who could conceivably help the team in the medium term. At 37 years old and with little NFL success to his name, McCown is not that guy.
