Report: Eagles To Release Chase Daniel, Should The Jets Be Interested?

New, comments

Nick Foles is back in Philadelphia, which means that the Eagles are reportedly set to release Foles. Should the Jets be interested?

We're well into free agency now, and who will be starting behind center for the Jets in 2016 is no clearer than it was before. Earlier today it was reported that the Eagles are going to release Daniel after failing to find a trade partner, I have no doubt we'll see a report stating the Jets interest...but should we be interested?

It was only a year ago that Chase Daniel agreed to a 3 year deal with Philadelphia for $21 million, following Doug Pederson to the Eagles, a coach he had played for in Kansas City. When Bradford was traded to the Vikings, it appeared as though Chase Daniel may finally get his shot. Alas, it was not to be. The Eagles went with rookie Wentz and the rest is history.

I can't blame Daniel for wanting to start. After all, he's been in the league for 8 years now and has attempted just 78 passes in the regular season. He's only attempted 3 passes over the last two years in Kansas City and Philadelphia combined. I'd be getting a little tired of holding a clipboard as well.

The Jets don't have a great deal to lose, but any deal should be a one year deal. Then Daniel can battle it out with Petty and Hackenberg and we can dream of the 2018 draft class, which you can read all about right here (cheeky plug). Maybe we draft a QB this year and there is a 4 way camp battle with the best man starting.

Don't be surprised if you see the Jets linked to Daniel. As long as the contract is reasonable and we can get out of it after a single year, there's no harm in giving him a go. Although he's been in 8 pre-seasons now, and attempted less than 100 passes...I'm not holding out too much hope.
