Jets Sign Tackle Kelvin Beachum

The Jets have signed former Jaguars offensive tackle.

The Jets have agreed to a contract with 27 year old free agent tackle, Kelvin Beachum

Beachum was selected in the 7th round of the 2012 draft out of Southern Methodist college by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After starting the first two years as a backup, Beachum started the 2014 season as the starting left tackle in Pittsburgh. Following the season he was rated as the 5th best left tackle by PFF, gaining notoriety as an excellent pass blocker.

Unfortunately for Beachum, his 2015 season was cut short due to an ACL injury. The Jets met with Beachum last off-season, but he ended up signing with the Jaguars.

He beat out Luke Joeckel in camp to become the Jaguars starting left tackle in 2016, however he never looked comfortable in Jacksonville, and the Jaguars decided to decline his $40 million option after a disappointing season where he allowed 49 QB pressures.

It'll be interesting to see the contract on this one, as in 2014 it looks as though Beachum was set to flourish. With him being another year removed from his ACL injury, maybe he can regain his 2014 form, or maybe that was just an odd year for him. We'll soon find out.

This signing would indicate that Beachum will be the starting left tackle for the Jets with Shell and Ijalana battling it out to start at RT.
