Report: John Morton Playing Big Role in Search for Jets QB Coach

Rich Cimini says new offensive coordinator John Morton has a major role in the hiring of a new quarterbacks coach. While the Jets have filled out most of their 2017 coaching staff, this role remains unfilled.

From what I hear, Morton will have a big say in hiring the quarterbacks coach, the only position that hasn't been filled on Todd Bowles' revamped staff. I believe they have a guy in mind (no, he's not coaching in Super Bowl LI) and he should become known in the coming days. Chances are, it'll be someone with a background in the West Coast offense. The biggest names available are Greg Knapp, Chris Weinke and Marc Trestman, who worked with Morton in Oakland. Sorry, I wish I had more, but I'm fairly confident it'll be a recognizable name.

I was expecting that Morton would have a major role in this hiring since it is the position coach at the most important position, and the head coach is a defensive guy. The old quarterbacks coach, Kevin Patullo, had ties to Chan Gailey.
