Notes on a few players to watch at the combine and first round mock.

The combine is here and before the drills start I thought I'd share some prospects who interest me, who could make or lose a lot of money and who I will be looking out for and then I will hit you with my first round mock.

Alvin Kamara, RB, Tennessee.

He will be expected to run around 4.5 in the 40 so he's no Chris Johnson but where he could light it up will be in the 3 cone drill and short shuttle. He had some issues when he was at Alabama adding to Ultimately why he left but scouts are apparently putting that down to him being immature and entitled after being the top RB recruit coming out of high school. In the years since he has kept his nose clean and has reportedly matured.

I think at the moment he is an early - mid second round guy, with his vision, ability to catch out of the backfield and return punts I see him as a future NFL 3 down running back and a prospect I really like.

Nathan Peterman, QB, Pittsburgh.

He won't wow anybody in drills, physically he is pretty average, however he has very good accuracy and vision. He has experience in a pro style system and for me is the most day one ready of all the QB's in the draft. For a team like the Jets he could start week one of next season and put up pretty good play. I really like his tape and his decision making. His draft stock is 2nd-3rd, I think he goes in the second round and a QB needy team will have a real steal. Thanks to Smack for highlighting this guy to us.

David Njoku, Miami.

A former national boys high jump champion and high school receiver, he has athleticism that is unheard of for someone who is 6'5" and 245lbs. Njoku is set to blow up the combine, he is just that good an athlete. Teams will fall in love in with his measurable and this should push him into the first round conversation however he is still relatively new to the position and not a great blocker and I can't see him being ready to slot in day 1.

Fabian Moreau, CB, UCLA.

Moreau is a prospect I love and for the life I me I can’t figure out why most mocks have him going outside the first round, even in this DB deep class. He is a smooth and fluid runner, looks natural when changing direction and following routes, great size and speed and a very good wrap up tackler. He will be one of these guys who is near the top of future 2017 re-drafts. Draft projection 2nd round.

Tristan Decoud, CB, Oregon State.

I’ve already written a full drafting report on him (which you can read here), but this combine could be big for him. A good time on the 40 and he will move up draft boards, if he runs a bad one then he may drop drastically.

Zane Gonzalez, K, Arizona State.

I know kickers being at the combine is more of a formality but I just wanted to mention Gonzalez as he is a kicker who I think could be an immediate replacement for Nick Folk with a chance of being a serious upgrade. Good range as a field goal kicker, extremely reliable from close up and I expect him to be a long term starter in the NFL.

Okay, so now onto my pre combine mock draft. This is what I think teams will pick not what I would, for example I think Trubisky will go top 5 even though I am not as hot on him as most.

1, Browns.

Myles Garret, EDGE, Texas A&M.

Easy choice, most talented player in a long while. Cleveland absolutely should not overthink this.

2, 49ers.

Mitch Trubisky, QB, North Carolina.

49ers are QB needy and Trubisky is the consensus best QB prospect in the draft. Kizer may have the higher ceiling but for a team that needs a QB right now Trubisky is the guy they will go for.

3, Bears.

DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame.

Another QB needy team and I think this will be a real reach, especially with Jonathan Allen, Jamal Adams and Hooker still on the board who for me are all future pro bowlers who could do wonders for the Bears D Line, however Teams will always reach for QB’s and I can see Bears doing that here and moving on from Cutler.

4, Jaguars.

Jamal Adams, S, LSU.

The Jags need help in the secondary and this class has two tremendous safety prospects in Adams and Malik Hooker. I think Jamal Adams is a day one impact guy and will captain a defense for a long time. A player who can change the whole look of a defense.

5, Titans.

Jonathan Allen, DT, Alabama.

In this scenario with Allen still on the board the Titans wouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger. An instant impact player, he can play all over the D Line and can get to the QB from inside or out, a steal.

6, Jets

Malik Hooker, S, Ohio State.

At this point Jets could go with Leonard Fournette or Taco Charlton which would both be good picks but I think with the board as it is they will go DB. I was thinking of going Lattimore here but the draft is deep with CB’s and the Jets are reportedly going after a premier CB in FA so Hooker makes a lot of sense here. He has game changing ability and is the ballhawking safety the Jets need.

7. Chargers.

Cam Robinson, OL, Alabama.

The Chargers need to protect Rivers so I can imagine them reaching here. Robinson has some questions with footwork but he uses his length and strength to make up for it. Spent the A&M game going one on with Garret and accounted himself very well. Ramczyk could also be a pick here but coming off a hip injury I think he drops a little.

8. Panthers.

Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU.

Panthers get a future pro bowl RB and Fournette starts from day one, he is a top 5 talent but I see him dropping here due to injury questions, Panthers rejoice.

9. Bengals.

Taco Charlton, EDGE, Michigan.

Best available player. Will be able to get to QB’s at the next level. A very good value pick for the Bengals here.

10. Bills.

Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson.

If he’s on the board here I can’t see the Bills not drafting him. The uncertainty of Taylor and a franchise desperate for a QB, this makes sense for them, but I think it is a huge reach.

11. Saints.

Marshon Lattimore, CB, Ohio State.

New Orleans have been awful on defense and they need to be addressing the secondary here. It could be either Jones or Lattimore, I have them both at similar grades but I think Lattimore is the guy teams prefer slightly.

12. Browns.

Sidney Jones, CB, Washington.

Browns need help all over, they could get an immediate RT here and future Joe Thomas replacement here in Ramczyck but I think they get secondary help here in Sidney Jones.

13. Cardinals.

Marlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama.

Cardinals could do with a long term answer at CB and if Humphrey is still here it makes too much sense not to.

14. Colts.

Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State.

I know two RBs off the board before any receivers and I could see them going Corey Davis or Mike Williams here but giving Andrew Luck an elite runner to take some pressure off him could do wonders for their offense.

15. Eagles.

Mike Williams, WR, Clemson.

I prefer Corey Davis but I think in this scenario the Eagles would go for the more proven receiver. This is a position they are in desperate need of.

16. Ravens.

Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan.

Another team who could really benefit from a wideout is Baltimore, they take the best one on the board here.

17. Redskins.

Soloman Thomas, DE, Stanford.

He is seen by some as a tweener and that is what causes his fall to here. Washington get an absolute steal and a future pro bowler.

18. Titans.

John Ross, WR, Washington.

The Titans could profit from giving Mariota a very good target here.

19. Buccaneers

Malik McDowell, DT, Michigan State.

A solid pick here, McDowell paired with Gerald McCoy would be scary.

20. Broncos.

Ryan Ramczyk, OL, Wisconsin.

The Broncos have let Okung go after declining his option so they can replace him here with Ramczyk who drops due to injury.

21. Lions.

OJ Howard, TE, Alabama.

Lions pick a Talented TE who will dominate for a long time and will be a true red zone threat.

22. Dolphins.

Reuban Foster, LB, Alabama.

He will be a game changer here for the Dolphins and will be a weakside in 4-3 sets and team up nicely in the middle with Kiko Alonso in 3-4, everydown linebacker.

23. Giants

David Njoku. TE, Miami.

Eli gets another target, this one an athletic freak who along with OBJ and Cooper can round off a really nice set of pass catchers.

24. Raiders.

Tre’davious White, CB, LSU

Not so much thinking here, the Raiders need secondary help, White is the best one on the board.

25. Texans.

Garett Bolles, OT, Utah.

There is so many picks I wanted to put here. TJ Watt for a Watt Brothers defense would be cool but I think he may be a stretch here, Patrick Mahomes staying in state to become the savior of the Texans could be a great story. But Bolles makes too much sense here to sure up the line.

26. Seahawks

Caleb Brantley, DT, Florida.

Scouts have likened him to Aaron Donald, will make a scary defense even scarier.

27. Chiefs.

Tim Williams, LB, Alabama.

The Chiefs get a very good edge rusher here. Just let him do what he does the best and rush the QB. Williams falls because of worries that he won’t be an every down LB.

28. Cowboys

Derek Barnett, DE, Tennessee.

The Cowboys get a player who can rush the QB and blow up run plays.

29. Packers.

Alvin Kamara, RB, Tennessee

Green bay need a running back and the best one currently on the board is Kamara.

30. Steelers.

Haason Reddick, LB, Temple.

Can be an everydown linebacker, lining up inside or out. He is explosive and will be a great compliment to Ryan Shazier.

31. Falcons.

Budda Baker, S, Washington.

The Falcons get a playmaker who I think is one of the more underrated players in this draft.

32. Patriots.

Zach Cunningham, LB, Vanderbilt.

This draft is so deep, the Pats could make a lot of really good picks here, McCaffrey could be an electric RB in this offense and Peppers is still available but I think the best pick is a swiss army knife linebacker who can be an instant replacement for Jamie Collins.

It is only when you mock like this that you realize how deep the draft is, guys like Jabril Peppers and Adoree Jackson would be locks for forst rounders any other year, the same can be said for McCaffery and Foreman as well. TJ Watt is going to be a steal for someone but he also just missed out on the first.
