The Jets made a few moves yesterday to clear out some cap space, cutting right tackle Breno Giacomini and kicker Nick Folk. The Folk move was something of a surprise. The Giacomini move was not. The only thing surprising about the Jets moving on from Giacomini was the timing. Mike Maccagnan has shown a tendency to hold players until the last possible minute before making a move so it was a tad unexpected to see the Jets make a move a few weeks before free agency starts. It also was surprising the Jets kept Giacomini for 2016 instead of cutting him a year ago.
On today's podcast we talk about the two moves. I don't think there is going to be a ton of debate that cutting Breno was the right move. Folk's release is probably a bit more controversial, but I think it was the right move as well for reasons I explain.
