As David told you earlier, the Jets were in the mix with free agent cornerback K’Waun Williams. Williams will not be coming to the Jets, however. He will be signing with the San Francisco 49ers.
This may have been the first cornerback the Jets targeted, but I presume it will not be the last one. The team is going to have some money to spend in the offseason and has a big hole at the position.
It is a premium position for Todd Bowles’ preferred defense. Bowles loves to bring big blitzes, which leaves man to man coverage on the back end of the defense. You need talented corners to hold up there.
The Jets reportedly had quite a bit of competition for the cornerback with three other teams, including San Francisco making Williams an offer.
The Jets should have other opportunities to upgrade their secondary in the weeks to come.
