Darryl Slater reports the Jets and Todd Bowles have not discussed a contract extension. Bowles’ current contract runs through next season.
The Jets have surprised plenty of people with their performance this season, but the organization hasn't yet approached coach Todd Bowles' camp about extending his contract, a source with knowledge of the situation told NJ Advance Media on Wednesday.
This has become a topic of conversation over the last few weeks. By most measures, the Jets have overachieved this season which is a credit to Bowles.
I can’t say I understand why folks are in such a rush to see something definitive done, though. There is still a quarter of the season left to play.
What if the the Jets lose out?
What if the Jets win out?
This team could finish 5-11. It could finish 9-7. The wild disparity of those outcomes would surely impact the Jets’ decision-making.
Unless the team loses out, I think Bowles has probably done enough to earn a fourth season. He has done a nice job this year. I’m not sure I’ve seen enough at this point to justify a longer-term commitment. It might be a good move to let this thing play itself out.
