In the second of two Christmas NFL games the 6-8 Oakland Raiders make the long trip east to take on the 12-2 Philadelphia Eagles in the final prime time game of the 2017 NFL regular season.
The Oakland Raiders have suffered through a disappointing 2017 season. Among the preseason favorites to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl, the Raiders never really found their groove. Quarterback Derek Carr struggled through most of the season, running back Marshawn Lynch was never quite the impact running back the Raiders expected, star receiver Amari Cooper disappeared for long stretches, and the Raiders were unable to put together any kind of decent winning streak. The Raiders at this point have only pride to play for, which may not be enough against the Eagles in Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia Eagles come into the game fighting for the best record in the NFL this season and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Eagles have had one of the NFL's top ranked offenses and defenses all year, but the recent loss of star quarterback Carson Wentz calls into question the Eagles' Super Bowl aspirations. Backup quarterback Nick Foles did a great job filling in last week, but there is little to suggest Foles is capable of providing the same kind of top flight quarterback play on a consistent basis.
It's the Raiders and the Eagles in the last Monday Night Football game of the 2017 season.
