College football championship Saturday is here

NCAA Football: Big 12 Championship-Texas Christian vs Oklahoma Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Championship week in college football got underway last night as Sam Darnold and USC defeated Bryce Love and Stanford to win the Pac 12 title. A number of games today will have an impact on the College Football Playoff.

Big XII Championship Game TCU vs. Oklahoma (FOX)

In Dallas the Big XII is having its first title game since 2010. It is a rematch of an Oklahoma blowout earlier in the season. Baker Mayfield and the Sooners are lock for the Playoff with a victory. A TCU victory would help cause chaos. The Horned Frogs might even be able to sneak into the title game.

SEC Championship Game Georgia vs. Auburn 4:00 (CBS)

As usual there is plenty on the line in the SEC Championship Game. This game is a virtual college football quarterfinal. The winner will make the College Football Playoff. The loser is out. Alabama must watch and hope for help. Auburn’s victory over Georgia three week’s ago helped springboard the Tigers into the position they find themselves, needing just a win to make the Playoff. Can Georgia get revenge in a rematch of the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry?

ACC Championship Game Miami vs. Clemson 8:00 (ABC)

This is also a virtual quarterfinal. Defending National Champion Clemson will certainly make the College Football Playoff with a win, while a Miami victory will likely earn a berth for the Hurricanes even after their loss last week.

Big Ten Championship Game Ohio State vs. Wisconsin 8:00 (FOX)

It would be difficult to envision an undefeated Big Ten Champion being left out of the College Football Playoff, even with a lackluster strength of schedule. With that in mind, Wisconsin probably is in with a win. An Ohio State win gives the Buckeyes a case and the committee a headache.
