Jets-Saints: What was the most important play of the game?

What was the most important play of Sunday’s loss to the Saints?

What does Pro Football Reference think?

Pro Football Reference has a formula to give you a team’s odds of winning at any point in a game. Which single play increased New Orleans’ chances the most?

They have Bryce Petty’s interception late in the third quarter by Craig Robertson. Even though the Saints did not convert the pick into a score, it raise New Orleans’ odds by 12.1% from 83% to 95.1%.

As a side note, the 83% chance before that particular snap was New Orleans’ lowest mark of the day by that formula.

What do I think?

The Jets missed chance after chance to seize this game in the second half. Bryce Petty kept getting the ball with a chance to score to tie or take the lead. Those chances ended on Drew Brees’ touchdown pass to Michael Thomas halfway through the fourth quarter. It put the Saints up 24-13, and you knew the Jets were not coming back from that the way they were playing offense. With that in mind, I would go with the Brees-Thomas touchdown.
