Jets Offensive Coordinator John Morton’s Real Test Begins Now

New, comments
NFL: New York Jets at Denver Broncos Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

In some ways, the Jets stepped into a new era on Monday. Quarterback Josh McCown was officially ruled out for the season with a broken hand, which means Bryce Petty becomes the starter.

This especially turns the spotlight on offensive coordinator John Morton. Morton has had a nice honeymoon with the Jets in his first season. Given very low expectations before the season, Morton has guided an offense that has looked competent for the most part.

One year of competent offense with a veteran quarterback is not what makes the career of offensive coordinators, though. What makes (or breaks) careers is the ability to develop a young quarterback. Morton's test begins this Sunday, and it likely will continue into next season with the likely upcoming drafting of a quarterback. That is the topic of today's podcast.
