AFC Playoff Picture: Jets 11th in conference; Playoff hopes are on life support

NFL: New York Jets at Denver Broncos Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Jets were not mathematically eliminated from Playoff contention on Sunday, but the team received what was likely a mortal wound. The 23-0 loss to the Broncos dropped the Jets to 5-8.

Baltimore’s loss to the Steelers last night kept the Jets two games behind in the chase for the final AFC postseason spot. That is where they were heading into the week. Two back with only three games to play is not a good place to be, though. In addition the Chargers and Bills both won, which means the Jets are also two behind them for 7th and 8th place in the conference.

The Playoffs were a longshot entering Week 14. After this loss to Denver, the Jets need a Festivus miracle to snap their six year postseason drought.

They are currently in 11th place in the conference. The full AFC standings prior to Monday Night Football are posted below.
