AFC Playoff Picture: Jets Move into 9th Place in Conference to Start Week 9

The Jets’ win over Buffalo last night has them temporarily in ninth place in the AFC standings with a 4-5 record. That could and likely will change with the results of NFL games this weekend.

New York currently sits behind Baltimore, Miami, and Jacksonville for the sixth and final Playoff spot in the conference. Those three teams also have four wins, but they have less losses. The Ravens are 4-4 while the Dolphins and Jaguars are 4-3. Technically, the Jets are one game out of the final AFC Playoff spot, but they are two back in the loss column.

Making the Playoffs remains a tall order, but the win last night at least keeps the Jets in the discussion. The team would have been all but finished with a loss.

The current AFC standings are below. Keep in mind these will change quite a bit after all of the games this weekend.

  1. Pittsburgh 6-2
  2. Kansas City 6-2
  3. New England 6-2
  4. Tennessee 4-3
  5. Buffalo 5-3
  6. Jacksonville 4-3
  7. Miami 4-3
  8. Baltimore 4-4
  9. Jets 4-5
  10. Houston 3-4
  11. Cincinnati 3-4
  12. Denver 3-4
  13. Los Angeles 3-5
  14. Oakland 3-5
  15. Indianapolis 2-6
  16. Cleveland 0-8
