2018 NFL Mock Offseason: The Bye Week Edition and the Resurgence of Geno Smith

Just kidding on the Geno Smith Part. Not even Geno and all his greatness can save this franchise. Don't worry there are plenty of guys that can. I have two philosophies in regards to building a team: Build through the draft and complement the core with solid free agents, and If a franchise QB presents himself go and get him. So far we have $62 mil in cap space with $24 mil in rollover from last year, bringing our total to $86 mil, before any restricting or cuts.

Restructures: Mo Wilkerson 3 years $25 mil(10.5 mil cap hit): Mo currently is not anywhere near playing at the level to justify his 20 mil cap hit this year. It simply will not happen. However, he is a serviceable DE when healthy. It would currently cost 9 mil just to cut him. Not including signing his replacement. This gives Mo more money, but helps our cap hit. Savings of $9.5 mil (95.5 mil total)

Cuts: Buster Skrine ($6 mil)- Just not a good CB at this point

James Carpenter (4.7 mil)- Serviceable and aging. Not what we really need at this point. Not for nearly $7 mil.

Ben Ijalana (4.7 Mil)- Probably the worst signing of the Macs tenure.

Jermaine Kearse $5 mil)- Again serviceable, but this is one position we have a lot of youth at. We don't really need a serviceable guy right now for $5 mil.

Bilal Powell (4 mil)- This one really pains me. I love Powell, but I love the idea of Powell more than the player. A very limited player.

Matt Forte ($3 mil)- Nothing really left in the tank at this point.

Steve Mclendon (3.2 mil)- He is decent, but not great. a nose tackle for $4 mil better be more than a JAG.

This saves us $30.6 Mil in cuts bringing our total to $126.1 million.

Resigns: Kony Ealy 4 years 19 mil (5.5 mil cap hit): Arguably our best defensive player. When he is on the defense clicks around him. He is also young, which is a key piece in rebuilding a team. He doesn't break the bank, there are incentives in the deal, and he gets 19 mil in guarantees.

Demario Davis 3 years 16 mil ($5.5 mil cap hit): He is a tackling machine. He isn't the best player in the world, but he plays really well in Bowles Scheme.

ASJ 2 years 7 mil (4 mil): A young reliable tight end. He's an under dog that's really turned his life around.

Bruce Carter 1 year 1 mil- Good depth behind both linebackers, and contributes in special teams.

Terrence Brooks 1 year 1 mil- Another special teamer with added depth. He is young, and a solid rotational guy.

Rontez Miles 1 year 1 mil- Can't ever get rid of this guy. He is an awesome special teams player. He does whatever you ask. Plus he's sort of a fan favorite to some.

Quincy Enunwa 1 year 1.5 mil- Largely due to injury, but if he is healthy he should be a Jet.

$19.5 mil in cap hits with these seven signings, bringing our total to $106.6 mil. This doesn't mean we need to go out and just sign every name available. All my signings will be the guarantees only with the cap hit listed.

Signings: Kirk Cousins QB 5 years 122 mil (86 mil guaranteed, Cap hit of 24 mil)- The only guy I listed the entire contract for. We need a franchise QB, and one hits the open market. He is a top ten qb. He fits what we do on offense. He compliments the players we currently have. Plus this gives us the flexibility to address the offensive line during the draft. The contract is based off of Staffords, and other similar QB's. I don't think he should be or expects to be the highest paid in the league, but he should be close.

Trumaine Johnson CB 5 years 38mil (11 mil)- He is simply the best corner on the market. He's a top corner in the league, and he's still young. He doesn't play a style that is so physical it deteriorates the body. He is a play making press corner that will finally give Bowles an elite corner to work with for years.

Kyle Fuller CB 2 years 7 mil (3.5 mil cap hit)- A guy that has really improved for the Bears. He has not really been a very good player until now. However, at his current level he would make an excellent slot corner.

Weston Richburg C 4 years 19 mil (6 mil cap hit)- One of the most under rated centers In all of football. He is only 26, and he is the lone bright spot along the Giants offensive line. He is currently on IR for a concussion, so that will have to be monitored. Center is a position we simply cannot ignore.

Jonathan Cooper G 2 year 4 mil (2 mil cap hit)- Currently stuck behind the vaunted Dallas offensive line. However, we need as much depth as we can get along the line. He may never be elite, but he's a great back up. Plus he's an upgrade over anyone we currently have.

Dontae Johnson CB 2 years 3 mil (1.5 mil)- Only 25 years old. He is also 6'2 200 pounds. He gives us some much needed length and depth.

Byron Bell RT 2 years 7 mil( 3.5 mil cap hit)- If you're going to poach, poach from the best right? Simply put our line is terrible. Byron Bell is another good offensive linemen that is just buried. He is still under 30.

Barkevious Mingo OLB 2 years 6 mil (3 mil cap hit)- Jenkins puts together a few nice games, but does anyone think he's the answer? We also had Mauldin coming back next year, but he seems destine for special teams. Mingo adds a guy that can get to the QB in a hurry.

Currently we have about $52 mil in cap space. I Don't want to blow every last dime. we have 41 players under contract for 2018. I made 7 cuts bringing our total to 34. I made 15 signings so we currently have 49 people on the roster.

Current we are picking 11th. However, I see us losing a lot of games. I see Denver and the Chargers finishing better than us. So I'll move us up to 9th.

Round 1: Quenton Nelson OG Notre Dame: I currently have him as my best player in the draft. He is flawless in the run game. He's nearly flawless in the pass game. Maybe a guard is too early to take at nine, but this is a 15 year starter. He steps right in to the LG spot.

Round 2: Bryce Love RB Stanford- the most electrifying back besides Barkley. I true home run hitter with excellent vision. He pairs well with Mcguire.

Round 2 (From Seattle): Joshua Jackson CB Iowa- A true ballhawk press corner. Excellent size at 6' 1" 195 pounds. He's had 5 ints the last two games with 2 pick six. He rarely gives any separation. He falls to round 2 because he is terrible against the run, and doesn't have the elite speed.

Round 3: Frank Ragnow C Arkansas- Yes we have our starting Center, but we need good depth. Ragnow could also play RG. He is much better against the run, but still solid enough against the pass.

Round 4: J'Mon Moore WR Missouri- 675 yards and 7 tds so far this year. a 6' 3" Wr with 4.5 speed. He should provide an immediate red zone target.

Round 5- Rashaad Penny RD San Diego State- A bruising running back. He is not very elusive or a pass Catcher. He is a one cut and go type back, and we need a guy like him to set the tone.

Round 6- Dimitri Flowers FB Oklahoma- An excellent run blocker and does provide some in the passing game. We haven't had a good full back in ages. It's time for us to get a good blocker and set the tone.

With this draft I think we fill many holes with some much needed youth. While a first round guard isn't exactly what you hope for, it's time we take the offensive line serious. Right now its in shambles. This gives us a offensive line of Beachum, Nelson, Richburg, Winters/cooper, and Byron Bell. It also gives us Shell and Ragnow as rotational guys. Light years ahead off what we have now.

Let me know what you guys think. Hopefully I'm not too far off on my numbers. I used overthgcap.com for my cap space and several draft sites for player rankings.
