Jets Acquire CB Rashard Robinson From 49ers

NFL: San Francisco 49ers at Washington Redskins Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

According to multiple reports the New York Jets have acquired cornerback Rashard Robinson from the San Francisco 49ers, reportedly for a 2018 5th round draft pick.

Rashard Robinson is a 6’ 1”, 175 pound cornerback out of LSU. He was originally selected by the San Francisco 49ers with the 133rd overall selection in the 4th round of the 2016 NFL draft. Robinson is a tall, long limbed but sleight of frame cornerback with mid 4.4 speed.

Robinson had substantial issues while at LSU. He started two games as a freshman in 2013 and six games as a sophomore in 2014 before being suspended indefinitely by the University due to a failed drug test and substandard academics. He was never reinstated for the 2015 season, so Robinson sat out the entire 2015 season before entering the 2016 NFL draft. Robinson was arrested in June of 2015 and charged with unauthorized entry in connection with a theft from the apartment of one of Robinson's former teammates. He has admitted to being "selfish" while at LSU.

With the 49ers Robinson played in 22 games in the 2016 and 2017 season, with 13 starts. He has amassed 55 tackles, 15 passes defended and two interceptions in his brief NFL career. Robinson developed a reputation as a penalty machine while with the 49ers. He is a press cornerback who has had trouble staying away from defensive holding and pass interference penalties.
