The New York Jets have signed wide receiver Jalin Marshall to their practice squad. Marshall was cut in a late surprise move prior to the October 15 game against the New England Patriots. A week before that the Jets kept Marshall on the suspended list until the last possible moment, resulting in him missing the 5th game of the season, to allow for maximum roster flexibility.
Given these moves it seemed the Jets were not exactly enamored with Marshall’s potential, and it would not have been surprising if the Jets had simply moved on after he was cut. Instead the Jets have kept Marshall with the organization.
The practice squad was probably the right place for Marshall last year, instead of the 53 man roster spot he held, as he looked unready for the NFL in early action. Perhaps a place on the practice squad now will allow him to develop into a useful piece for a rebuilding Jets team moving forward.
