Jets-Patriots Offensive Snap Totals: Matt Forte Steps Back Into Starting Role

NFL: New England Patriots at New York Jets Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Matt Forte returned from injury and stepped back into his role as the primary running back for the Jets yesterday. The veteran saw 44 snaps, meaning he was in for 58% of Jets offensive plays. Of course, Bilal Powell was out so it isn’t clear whether Forte will see as prominent of a role when the backfield is healthy. In any event, Elijah McGuire got 25 snaps out of the backfield, and Travaris Cadet got 8.

Elsewhere, Chad Hansen saw a modest bump in his snap total. The rookie fourth round pick was in for 11 snaps. That is a fairly limited role, but he only had 17 snaps in the first 5 games combined so this amounted to an increase. Perhaps Hansen is showing something in practice to earn these increased snaps.

Josh McCown and the starting offensive line were the players who never came off the field on the offense.

Complete snap totals for Sunday’s game are below.
