Mike Pereira and Dean Blandino Think Overturning Austin Seferian-Jenkins’ Touchdown Was Bad Call

Former NFL vice presidents of officiating Mike Pereira and Dean Blandino agree the officials blew the call when they overturned Austin Seferian-Jenkins’ touchdown in the fourth quarter of yesterday’s Jets-Patriots game. The Jets lost the game 24-17 so that touchdown might have come in handy.

Even beyond the relevance of the play to the Jets, this video is worth a watch. Pereira and Blandino do a really good job going step by step through the play and explaining all of the rules in play and things to watch.

Referee Tony Corrente said yesterday that the decision to overturn the touchdown was “obvious.” It apparently wasn’t so obvious to two former vice presidents of officiating in the NFL. In fact, they both thought the play should have stood as called precisely because it wasn’t clear at all the call should be overturned.

It will be interesting to see whether the league has anything else to say, but it won’t do the Jets much good either way.
