Earlier in the week, a report came out that the Jets had interest in Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo for their open offensive coordinator permission. Because DeFilippo is under contract, the Jets needed to get permission from the Eagles to interview him. They did not get it.
Eagles denied Jets permission to interview their QB coach John DeFilippo for offensive coordinator job, per league source.

The NFL views moving from one assistant coach job to another as a lateral move, even if it would be somebody moving from position coach to coordinator. With that in mind, the Jets are unable to speak with DeFilippo about their opening. This might sound odds, but my understanding is this is to prevent a team from giving somebody a title of offensive coordinator but not the actual job responsibilities.
It isn’t clear whether the Jets favored DeFilippo, but his name was the first one that came up in public. The team will now need to look in another direction for somebody to run the offense.
