There has been a lot of speculation in recent weeks that Donald Trump will name Jets owner Woody Johnson as the United States’ ambassador to the United Kingdom. If that happens, Johnson would be living abroad and presumably away from the day to day operations of the Jets. Mike Florio reported Johnson would hand control of the team to his brother.
Per a league source with knowledge of the situation, Woody Johnson will hand the reins to his younger brother, Christopher Wold Johnson. Chris Johnson would then run the team until Woody’s appointment ends.
Your guess is as good as mine as to whether Chris Johnson would be an upgrade, downgrade, or equal to Woody as owner of the team.
The most recent similar situation came Steelers owner Dan Rooney was named ambassador to Ireland in 2009. He temporarily stepped aside as Chairman of the team until he resigned as ambassador in 2012.
