NY Jets: The Importance of Drafting Well

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

I think everybody knows these days in professional sports that the only recipe for success is effective drafting and player development. One recent Jets move really brought this to light. Important as we might believe quality drafting is, the Brian Winters contract truly displays how out of hand the free agent market is getting. Whether you agree with the decision the Jets made, I think we can all agree the fact a right guard like Winters can get $7 million per season shows how out of hand the free agency game has gotten. That is the topic of our podcast today.

We go through the economics of the NFL and discuss how important it is to draft to build a winning franchise. Some or most of this might seem obvious, but it is important to discuss as the Jets embark upon what for all intents and purposes is year five of a rebuilding project.
