Todd Bowles: Right Tackle Competition Is Ongoing

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Jets head coach Todd Bowles indicated yesterday that he does not know whether Ben Ijalana or Brent Qvale will start at right tackle Sunday in the regular season opener against the Bengals.

On if he’s determined who will be the starting right tackle…

Not yet.

On if the two players at right tackle are still auditioning or if he knows who will start…

I don’t know who’s going to start yet.

On if the two players are still competing at right tackle…

Yes.

Starting right tackle Breno Giacomini is beginning the regular seasons on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, which will keep him out of action for at least the first six weeks. Qvale and Ijalana are the two in house options to replace him in the short run.

This seems like a sign that nobody has stepped up and claimed the job, which is somewhat bothersome. As the old saying goes, when you have two guys at a position, you don't have anybody.
