Ian Rapoport says the Jets will be working out free agent running back C.J. Spiller on
Tuesday.
Free agent running back CJ Spiller is working out for the #Jets tomorrow, source said.

Spiller was recently cut by the Saints where he signed prior to the 2015 season.
There is a connection here. Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey was the head coach when the Bills drafted Spiller in the first round of the 2010 Draft. Under Gailey, Spiller had his best season in 2012 when he recorded over 1,700 yards from scrimmage.
The Jets lost a former Saints running back Khiry Robinson to an injury. Robinson was supposed to be the third back on the team. Given the way the team has used Matt Forte, a third back is probably not that big of a deal.
With this in mind, I wonder whether the Jets envision Spiller as a return man more than a back. He does have experience as a returner, and the Jets might be in the market for a new one with Jalin Marshall’s fumbling issues.
