Jets 53 Man Roster and Practice Squad Projection

Here is my final crack at figuring out the Jets' roster.

Active Roster (53)

QB (4): Ryan Fitzpatrick, Geno Smith, Bryce Petty, Christian Hackenberg

Depending on his injury from last night, Petty could plausibly end up on IR, but I will bet against that right now.

RB (4): Matt Forte, Bilal Powell, Khiry Robinson, Tommy Bohanon

I did not think there was much of a chance the Jets would keep an extra back, but Khiry Robinson's return makes that unnecessary.

WR (6): Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, Kenbrell Thompkins, Jeremy Ross, Robby Anderson, Charone Peake

This was the same as I had it earlier in the week, but I don't think Jalin Marshall did anything to play his way back onto the roster.

TE (4): Kellen Davis, Quincy Enunwa, Jace Amaro, Zach Sudfeld

Again, I have no changes here. I know Amaro could end up getting the boot, but are you seriously telling me Davis and Sudfeld deserve to be on this roster more than he does?

OL (8): Ryan Clady, James Carpenter, Nick Mangold, Brian Winters, Ben Ijalana, Brent Qvale, Wesley Johnson, Craig Watts

This is my first chance. I think Brandon Shell played himself from being a lock to off the roster. Based on this kind of film, I think he makes the practice squad. I just can't see another team feeling like Shell is worthy of a roster spot. Who replaces him? In the last projection, it would have been Dakota Dozier, but I don't think he earned a roster spot either so I go with Watts. It also could be Breno Giacomini if he avoids the PUP list. I also think the Jets could be active on the waiver wire here.

DL (6): Muhammad Wilkerson, Leonard Williams, Steve McLendon, Jarvis Jenkins, Deon Simon, Lawrence Thomas

Thomas was one of the guys I waffled on the most in my last projection, but I thought he had a solid game to take a spot for now at least. Simon made a push for playing time in regular season action.

ILB (5): David Harris, Erin Henderson, Darron Lee, Bruce Carter, Taiwan Jones

Jones is my second change. His performance was so strong that I thought he earned a spot. This is the perfect storm. He played well at the same time David Harris got hurt. Because of Harris' injury, I see the Jets keeping an extra linebacker at least in the short term.

OLB (4): Lorenzo Mauldin, Jordan Jenkins, Freddie Bishop III, Mike Catapano

It wasn't a great preseason for this position group. I think Trevor Reilly is near the end, though.

CB (5): Darrelle Revis, Buster Skrine, Marcus Williams, Juston Burris, Dee Milliner

I wouldn't be shocked to see Milliner gone at this point. I'm just not sure I saw another cornerback step up and assert himself worthy of a roster spot.

S (4): Calvin Pryor, Marcus Gilchrist, Rontez Miles, Ronald Martin

Miles and Martin both earned backup spots in the preseason.

ST (3): Nick Folk, Lac Edwards, Tanner Purdum

This is a lock.
