A look a the snap count totals for the Jets in their season-opening loss show the competition at right tackle has carried into the regular season. There was a rough split of the snaps between Ben Ijalana and Brent Qvale. Ijalana played 55% of the snaps against Cincinnati, while Qvale played 45%.
Even though Todd Bowles indicated this was a possibility in the lead up to the game, I was a bit surprised to see this happen. Typically, one guy plays the whole game since chemistry and continuity are important along the offensive line. It is not clear whether this is a permanent arrangement, or whether one guy will eventually take over as the full-time starter until Breno Giacomini returns. Perhaps it is a situation where one player could play himself into or out of the job with performances that stand out either positively or negatively.
