Usually the first weekend of the college football season has a lot of dud games. It seems the powers that be wanted to have an awesome first weekend of college football this year, but the week of duds has moved to Week 2. There are not many interesting games today.
To the extent there are notable games, here they are. All times are Eastern.
Penn State and Pitt renew their dormant rivalry at noon on ESPN.
Ohio State hosts Tulsa at 3:30 on ABC.
Notre Dame hosts Nevada at 3:30 on NBC.
TCU hosts Arkansas at 7:00 on ESPN.
Mississippi State hosts South Carolina at 7:00 on ESPN 2.
Iowa hosts Iowa State at 7:30 on the Big Ten Network.
Tennessee and Virginia Tech play at 8:00 on ABC at the Bristol Motor Speedway.
There you have it. The biggest intrigue is about a venue, the game played at a racecar track.
