Jets vs. Eagles: Things to Watch for New York

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

The Jets and Eagles play tonight in the preseason finale for both teams. The starters typically do not play for either side in the last preseason game, but there are some areas to watch.

Ben Ijalana vs. Brent Qvale: Breno Giacomini looks less likely by the day to be ready for the Week 1 game against Cincinnati so one of these two will likely be starting in his place. Todd Bowles indicated he does not have a set starter and that this game will play into his decision.

The Receivers: It has been a pretty nice battle for the last few wide receiver spots with three rookies, Robby Anderson, Charone Peake, and Jalin Marshall making a push. Kenbrell Thompkins is in the mix as well. This is a last chance to make a statement.

The Returners: Marshall and Jeremy Ross have also been battling for the return jobs on special teams. It seems like Ross has had the better of play in preseason thus far, but the two competitors have another chance tonight to impress.

Bryce Petty: At this point, it would be kind of tough for me to imagine Petty not being the third quarterback. I think he played his way onto the roster against Washington and out of the backup competition against the Giants. I would like to see whether he can bounce back from what was a really bad Week 3. Was that Washington game a mirage? Was the Giants game one?

Christian Hackenberg: We finally got a first look against the Giants. We saw some really promising things and some shaky things. Now we should get a more extended look at what he can do.
