As we approach the 2016 season, we are going to profile the players on the roster. Today we look at Geno Smith.
Name: Geno Smith
Number: 7
Year With Jets: 4th
Projected Role: Backup quarterback
His 2015: Smith famously entered training camp as the starting quarterback, but his jaw was broken by teammate IK Enemkpali's punch. Ryan Fitzpatrick slid into the starting lineup and kept the job for the entire season. Smith did see extensive action against Oakland when a Fitzpatrick first quarter injury knocked him out of the game. Smith played a decent game in a blowout loss, moving the offense after the game was out of hand in the second half.
2016 will be a success if: Smith is called upon at some point due to injury or ineffectiveness from Fitzpatrick and looks like a good NFL quarterback. There aren't any excuses left. He isn't inexperienced anymore. He has been in this system for two years. The Jets have good weapons. If he wants to make something out of his career, this is the time. He needs to play a lot better than he has to this point in the NFL.
Odds of making the roster: Likely (75-99%)
