Jets Roster Analysis: Can Bryce Petty Grow With Another Year on the Bench?

William Hauser-USA TODAY Sports

As we approach the 2016 season, we are going to profile the players on the roster. Today we look at Bryce Petty.

Name: Bryce Petty

Number: 9

Year With Jets: 2nd

Projected Role: Likely third quarterback

His 2015: Petty was active as the number two quarterback at the start of the season as Geno Smith's broken jaw mended. He slid into the third quarterback role after Geno returned, never actually getting onto the field in a regular season game.

2016 will be a success if: Petty makes progress on the practice field. The Jets knew he was a long-term project when they took him. By next year, the team probably will need to feel comfortable that he could handle at least a backup role. Maybe there's a scenario where Christian Hackenberg improves into the number two guy, and Petty stays as number three. I think the Jets would at least need to be convinced that Petty would be a viable two. Getting there is his task for this season.

Odds of making the roster: Probable (75-99%)
