Jets Roster Analysis: Can a Position Change Bring Success for Mike Catapano?

As we approach the 2016 season, we are going to profile the players on the roster. Today we look at Mike Catapano.

Name: Mike Catapano

Number: 53

Year With Jets: 2nd

Projected Role: Competing for outside linebacker spot

His 2015: After failing to make the Chiefs roster, Catapano found a spot on the Jets practice squad. He earned a November promotion to the active roster. After that, he played 3 games and recorded a sack along with solid pressure totals in 52 snaps before going on injured reserve with a Lisfranc injury. Given the surplus of interior lineman on the roster and the lack of experienced edge players, the Jets are giving Catapano a look at outside linebacker.

2016 will be a success if: Catapano shows any sort of aptitude for playing on the edge. Moving from an interior line spot out there can be easier said than done. Ask Quinton Coples and Sheldon Richardson. The odds are probably against this being a success. Even on the interior line, we would be judging Catapano on a very limited number of snaps. Still, the Jets have so little at outside linebacker that Catapano stands a chance of making the team.

Odds of making the roster: 50/50
