As we approach the 2016 season, we are going to profile the players on the roster. Today we look at Kenbrell Thompkins.
Name: Kenbrell Thompkins
Number: 10
Year With Jets: 2nd
Projected Role: Possible receiver depth
His 2015: Thompkins spent training camp in Oakland, failing to make the team. He then caught on with New England, his original NFL home, on the practice squad. The Pats let him go, and he signed to the Jets' practice squad before earning a promotion to the active roster. Injuries led to the Jets calling upon him a couple of times. He had 10 catches during a two game stretch in November. Devin Smith's late season injury increased his role. A 43 yard reception late in the fourth quarter of the Jets' win in Dallas set up a game-winning field goal. Thompkins' best remembered play of 2015 was not a positive, however. In the final 20 seconds of the season, Thompkins had what would have been a game-winning, season-saving touchdown catch knocked out of his hands by Mario Butler. Thompkins would have scored a touchdown to send the Jets to the Playoffs. Instead, the season ended in heartbreak.
2016 will be a success if: Thompkins makes the team and produces in the third receiver role. The Jets have a trio of rookies pushing him for a roster spot so he is anything but a given to make this team.
Odds of making the roster: 50/50
