As we approach the 2016 season, we are going to profile the players on the roster. Today we look at Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Name: Ryan Fitzpatrick
Number: 14
Year With Jets: 2nd
Projected Role: Starting quarterback
His 2015: The Jets acquired Fitzpatrick from Houston for a late round pick, reuniting the quarterback with his former coach in Buffalo, Chan Gailey. He was initially acquired to be Geno Smith's backup, but the infamous locker room punch pushed Fitzpatrick into the role of opening day starter, and he would not relinquish the starting job. After a serviceable first half of the season, Fitzpatrick caught fire during a late season five game winning streak, throwing 13 touchdowns against just one interception in that stretch. The season finale was another story. With a Playoff spot in the Jets' sights, Fitzpatrick threw three interceptions, including one in the fourth quarter with the Jets in range of a go-ahead field goal.
2016 will be a success if: Fitzpatrick builds on that late season five game run with the chemistry that developed between he, Brandon Marshall, and Eric Decker. Adding Matt Forte and Quincy Enunwa to the mix along with Bilal Powell gives the quarterback ample weapons to rise above the journeyman label he has earned in his long career. Can he finally find a home, or was that stretch a mirage?
Odds of making the roster: Lock (>99%)
