Jets Roster Analysis: Is Marcus Williams Ready for a Bigger Role?

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

As we approach the 2016 season, we are going to profile the players on the roster. Today we look at Marcus Williams.

Name: Marcus Williams

Number: 20

Year With Jets: 3rd

Projected Role: Third cornerback playing outside

His 2015: After the signings of Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie, and Buster Skrine, Williams slid into the fourth cornerback role, where he thrived, intercepting six passes. Cromartie is now gone, and Williams will need to step into a starting role. The Jets essentially have three starting cornerbacks, meaning that moving from the number four role into number three is a large jump in responsibility.

2016 will be a success if: Williams shows he is up to the task playing a full load of snaps and has success against top three receivers on the opponents. Last year, he showed he can play in the NFL. This year, he needs to show he can start.

Odds of making the roster: Lock (>99%)
