Jets Roster Analysis: Marcus Gilchrist is Steady at the Back of the Defense

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

As we approach the 2016 season, we are going to profile the players on the roster. Today we look at Marcus Gilchrist.

Name: Marcus Gilchrist

Number: 21

Year With Jets: 2nd

Projected Role: Starting safety

His 2015: Gilchrist signed with the Jets as a free agent as part of the overhaul of the secondary. He was a steady force on the back end of the defense. It is nice to have a safety who makes a lot of game-changing plays, but sometimes it is a measure of success to barely have your name mentioned at the back end of the defense. It means mistakes leading to big plays seldom happen. Gilchrist worked in relative anonymity last season for most of the season.

2016 will be a success if: Gilchrist has a similarly steady season anchoring the back of the Jets defense. He is an important role player.

Odds of making the roster: Lock (>99%)
