Jets Roster Analysis: Can Bilal Powell Build on His Late Season Run?

Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

As we approach the 2016 season, we are going to profile the players on the roster. Today we look at Bilal Powell.

Name: Bilal Powell

Number: 29

Year With Jets: 6th

Projected Role: Second running back; weapon as a receiver out of the backfield

His 2015: After returning from a midseason ankle injury, Powell emerged as the third option for the Jets' passing game. The offense simultaneously started clicking, and the Jets went on a five game winning streak. Powell suffered another ankle injury late in the Week 16 win over New England and missed the Week 17 loss to the Bills, where the offense struggled. On a windy day in Western New York, we are left to wonder whether things would be different with Powell as an option out of the backfield.

2016 will be a success if: Powell both stays healthy and continues his late season play from last year. He will not be the third option this season as the Jets signed Matt Forte to be the lead pass catcher out of the backfield, but Powell will be a weapon the Jets can use.

Odds of making the roster: Lock (>99%)
