Jets Roster Analysis: What Are Antone Smith's Chances of Making the Team?

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

As we approach the 2016 season, we are going to profile the players on the roster. Today we look at Antone Smith.

Name: Antone Smith

Number: 30

Year With Jets: 1st

Projected Role: Competing for backup running back spot

His 2015: Smith was released from the Falcons in September. He caught on with the Bears for two months or so. He dressed for five games and got a single carry for eleven yards.

2016 will be a success if: Smith makes the team and contributes. This is now a seventh year veteran so he can't really be considered a developmental guy. Interestingly, Smith has had some success in very limited NFL work. He has only 30 career carries but has posted a 9.9 average per run. He also had 5 total touchdowns for the Falcons in 2014. Even so, the Jets are presumably set with their Forte/Powell/Robinson trio out of the backfield, and four would be a lot to keep.

Odds of making the roster: Longshot (less than 25%)
