As we approach the 2016 season, we are going to profile the players on the roster. Today we look at Dion Bailey.
Name: Dion Bailey
Number: 34
Year With Jets: 2nd
Projected Role: Competing for backup safety spot
His 2015: Bailey started his 2015 with Seattle starting in place of holdout Kam Chancellor. He was the culprit on a big Week 1 touchdown the Seahawks allowed late in the fourth quarter of their loss to the Rams. Bailey was waived a few weeks later, and the Jets grabbed him. Just days after being claimed, Bailey made some good plays in the fourth quarter of a game in London against the Dolphins in place of an injured Calvin Pryor. Bailey also played well in a start against the Jaguars later in the year when Pryor was hurt.
2016 will be a success if: Bailey once again provides the team with quality depth at safety. Perhaps he can work his way into some subpackages. He does face some competition for a roster spot, though. The Jets are going to have some tough decisions to make at the position as Ronald Martin and Doug Middleton are making pushes to stick around.
Odds of making the roster: 50/50
