These Five Jets Could Use a Big Game vs. Washington

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

As the Jets face Washington tonight, here are five players who could really use a good performance.

Dee Milliner: Milliner's preseason debut was pretty awful by any definition. He didn't play for very long and still almost allowed 100 yards in coverage. For his entire career, I have heard excuses. He was only a rookie. Then he was banged up. Then he just needed to get healthy. Last week he was rusty and against a great receiver in Allen Robinson. This week he should have been able to shake the rust off. It is time to see something from him.

Ross Martin: Martin dealt a major blow to his roster hopes last week with a pair of missed field goal attempts. Todd Bowles has hinted that the Jets will retain Nick Folk if the competition is close. Martin probably needs to make a few long kicks, and Folk will need to stumble for the rookie to stick on the 53 man roster.

Jeremy Ross: Unlike the guys mentioned above, Ross had a really good game against Jacksonville. His problem is that his skillset and that of rookie Jalin Marshall seem to largely overlap. One would imagine the Jets would keep Marshall and his greater upside if things are close.

Erin Henderson: Henderson had a rough one last week in a brief appearance. Like Ross, the pressure on him is really about a young guy pushing him. First round pick Darron Lee had an excellent preseason debut and a strong week of practice at training camp. The Jets would love for the rookie to play his way into the starting lineup. He would take Henderson's spot if he did. The veteran needs to play well enough to stay on the field.

Shelby Harris: Harris' roster odds are long with the defensive line talent the Jets have. If he puts together another strong game like he had against the Jaguars, there is going to at least be a discussion.
