Jets Waive Tom Hackett

To clear a roster spot for Ryan Fitzpatrick, the Jets waived undrafted free agent punter Tom Hackett.

Hackett had been signed as an undrafted free agent out of Utah.

He was expected to compete for the punter job with fellow Aussie Lac Edwards. Edwards presumably had a small edge since the Jets drafted him in the seventh round and did not utilize a pick on Hackett. Still, there seemed to be an opportunity to win the job. Apparently there was not.

I am a bit surprised to see the Jets enter camp with only an undrafted rookie, but they could still pick up another punter if Edwards falters. Hackett still might be on the market himself.
