Jets Roster Analysis: Can Kyle Friend Provide Depth at Center?

Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

As we approach the 2016 season, we are going to profile the players on the roster. Today we look at Kyle Friend.

Name: Kyle Friend

Number: 63

Year With Jets: 1st

Projected Role: Competing for backup interior line roster spot

His 2015: Friend anchored the offensive line for a surprisingly successful Temple team. He was awarded first team all conference. After being undrafted, he ended up signing with the Jets as a free agent.

2016 will be a success if: Friend makes the roster and sticks during the season. His experience at center might give him a leg up on some of the other interior line candidates. Nick Mangold is closer to the end of his career than the start. You can never depend on an undrafted player to develop into a starting caliber one, but it would be nice if Friend showed enough as a developmental guy to provide optimism.

Odds of making the roster: 50/50
