Jets Roster Analysis: How Will Brandon Shell's Rookie Season Go?

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

As we approach the 2016 season, we are going to profile the players on the roster. Today we look at Brandon Shell.

Name: Brandon Shell

Number: 72

Year With Jets: 1st

Projected Role: Backup at tackle and guard

His 2015: Shell finished up his college career in South Carolina. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed only 7 pressures on 398 snaps pass blocking. The Jets were so impressed that they made a trade with negative value to land him, giving up a fourth round pick in the future for the chance to select Shell in the fifth round of the 2016 Draft. Some feel he can be a starter at right tackle down the line. We will see. Finding a quality starter in the fifth round is easier said than done.

2016 will be a success if: Shell makes the roster and shows growth in practice as the season progresses. He is unlikely to see the field in 2016 barring a lot of injuries. You can never go into a season expecting the fifth round pick to be a big contributor as a rookie. It almost never happens. Odds are the player would have been picked higher if he was able to contribute so soon.

Odds of making the roster: Probable (between 75% and 99%)
