Rich Cimini says Muhammad Wilkerson is likely to begin training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list as he continues to recover from a broken leg suffered in the 2015 season finale against the Buffalo Bills.
Jets DE Mo Wilkerson, he of the brand new $86 million contract, likely will begin training camp on the PUP list. Wilkerson is doing well in his rehab from a broken leg, sustained in the final game, but the team wants to be cautious in the early stages of camp. Smart move. The goal is to get him ready for the Sept. 11 opener.
This is not the biggest deal in the world. It only means Wilkerson will not be practicing at the start of camp. He can come off the list at any point during camp once he is ready to go. If we were talking about somebody less established, missing those practice reps in camp might have meaning, but Wilkerson should not miss a beat.
